The UCLA Women’s Soccer team is ready for the NCAA Tournament. They proved that tonight as they destroyed the San Diego Toreros 5-0 at Drake Stadium. The Bruins now move on to the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

It only took the Bruins less than six minutes to get on the board as Abby Dahlkemper headed in a corner kick from Rosie White to start the assault. Less than two minutes later, Dahlkemper returned the favor as she sent a ball into White who scored to make it 2-0.

Just over ten minutes in, Taylor Smith had made an impressive run on a breakaway as she weaved through three Toreros who did a horrible job covering her. As she broke from the pack behind some excellent foot work, Smith centered the ball and took a shot from way outside the penalty box that got nothing but net. UCLA went up 3-0.

After the half, the Bruins continued to lay it on San Diego as Kylie McCarthy and Sam Mewis again gave the Bruins two goals within two minutes to make it 5-0 almost 54 minutes in. UCLA was just too strong for San Diego. The Bruins had excellent control of the ball, dominated time of possession and spread their attack all over the field with their speed. It was all too easy for UCLA.

Additionally, UCLA goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland set an NCAA record as she recorded her 53rd career shut out. That is dominance.

The Bruins will next face the winner of the of Central Connecticut State or Harvard on November 21.
