  • After a three-and-out on their second possession, UCLA came back for solid drive that ended with Jordan Payton getting a 20-yard touchdown pass that confused the Colorado defense. Payton had a ton of space to get the first down, but a couple of shifty moves got him into the end zone. UCLA 14 – Colorado 0.

After another three-and-out, UCLA put together another solid drive and settled for the field goal. UCLA 17 – Colorado 0. Brett Hundley, although connecting on several good passes, equally had many that flew over the head of his receivers. UCLA could have easily been up by four or five scores at this point.

Colorado scored first in the second quarter (with just over six minutes remaining) when they used a potent running attack, which they are not known for, to take the Bruins into the red zone. UCLA had a stop on 3rd and goal at the 8-yard line, but an errant personal foul was called on Ellis McCarthy when he threw Colorado QB Sefo Liufau to the ground. The Buffaloes got a second chance and took advantage of it two plays later when they went to a big formation and ran the ball in for the score. UCLA 17 – Colorado 7.

On the next Bruin possession, UCLA finally got their tempo going, which put Colorado on their heels. Perkins had 24 yards on the final run of the drive to put UCLA up 24-7.

On the Buffaloes next possession, three UCLA penalties (although one was declined) gave Colorado good field position and 1st downs to march down the field and get in the end zone. Michael Adkins II ran the ball in 17-yards. UCLA 24 – Colorado 14.

On the first play of the next possession for UCLA, Brett Hundley ran for open field, but had the ball poked out of his hands. The fumble gave Colorado possession. The Buffaloes got the ball down to the 4-yard line, but with no timeouts and miscommunication on the line caused a Colorado false start. With only a few seconds on the clock, the penalty killed any chance of another score as the referees ended the half.

UCLA had 8 penalties for 71 yards in that first half.
