UCLA Will Be Prepared For Colorado

facebooktwitterreddit

Just because Colorado has not won any games in conference the season does not mean that they are going to roll over and allow UCLA to completely dominate them. As we’ve seen this year it is a wacky season in the Pac-12 where anything can happen, like losing to a lowly team at the bottom of the standings. We something similar to that when Washington State went head-to-head with Oregon and came very close to shocking the Ducks, unfortunately, that did not happen, but it just proves one thing… the parody is real this season in the Pac-12.

  • It was speculated that the week of the Utah game, the then-undefeated Bruins were looking past the Utes at the Oregon Ducks who were next on the Bruin’s schedule. As we know, the Bruins have two losses this season to those exact teams. UCLA are still in the Pac-12 South Division race, but it is going to take a whole lot of effort and some missteps by their divisional counterparts to actually make that happen.

With that in mind, UCLA cannot afford to look past any team anymore this season. With the position they are in right now, that does not seem to be a problem. Already down two games, the Bruins have their backs against the wall. There is no chance UCLA does not take this game against Colorado, or any other game the rest of the way, seriously.

This may be a given, but if UCLA even glances at another team that is not their next opponent, they are in for “a world of pain”, to quote Walter from The Big Lebowski.

The Buffaloes may be the only team that has not improved from last season in the Pac-12, but that does not mean that head coach Mike MacIntyre has fallen asleep at the wheel. Colorado was in shambles before he took hold of the program and if anything he’s doing a damn good job with the tools that he has at his disposal. MacIntyre is trying to get the players he needs to implement the system of football that works best for Colorado. Proof of that is what he has made quarterback Sefo Liufau out to be.

The sophomore QB may not have a lot of weapons around him, but he is doing what he can to lead Colorado into the future. Liufau is fourth in the Pac-12 in passing yards per game with 290.0, most of which are going to receiver Nelson Spruce who is leading the conference in receptions with 10.1 a game, resulting in 114.4 yards per game.

Unfortunately, that is the bright spot of the team. They are a middle-of-the-road rushing team and near the bottom of the Pac in total defense. To add, the Buffaloes do not have a single win in conference and are 2-5 overall. That makes them very dangerous. Why? Because they have nothing to lose and if UCLA plays down to their level and go into Folsom Field with the mindset that they are going to roll the Buffaloes, then it will be a long game for the Bruins.

But that will not happen. Head Coach Jim Mora will not allow it. He needs this team to have a certain mindset and this week it is all Colorado. Everything else can wait.
