Here are the results from week 3 of Pac-12 Football:

NORTH DIVISION

1. Oregon (3-0)

W 48-14, vs Wyoming

Oregon is on top of the world. After a brilliant second half against Michigan State, the Ducks got back to picking on lesser foe as the Cowboys promptly got run over by Marcus Mariota and Oregon. Despite the lopsided victory, Oregon took a few body blows from the tough Wyoming squad. The Cowboys took a surprisingly early lead and lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Then Oregon became Oregon again and rattled off 41 points by the end of the third quarter. Mariota finished 221 yards and 2 TDs through the air and 71 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. He is definitely looking like a Heisman contender.

2. Washington (3-0)

W 44-19, at Illinois

Head coach Chris Petersen finally got a win he could be proud of as the Huskies smashed the Illini from the start. Washington was up big at the half, 38-10. QB Cyler Miles is doing well leading the offense, but it was a big defensive game that solidified a win for Washington. Linebacker Shaq Thompson had a 36-yard interception returned for a touchdown and picked up a fumble to go 52 yards for his second score of the game.

    5. Stanford (2-1, 0-1)

    W 35-0, vs Army

So it appears the Cardinal are back on track as they shut out their second team in three games. In total, Stanford is only allowing 4.3 points per game which is outstanding. Last week against USC, the Cardinal were not able to move against the Trojan defense and stumbled several times in the red zone. This game was a way for Kevin Hogan and the offense to re-establish their game. Although they did not put Oregon-esque numbers, but were able to get their passing game going. Hogan collected 216 passing yards with 4 TDs, three of those that went to WR Devon Cajuste.

    6. Washington State (1-2)

    W 59-21, vs Portland State

The Cougars finally won a game! The return home to their own field must have conjured up some positive energy as WSU put a smack on the Vikings. Connor Halliday continued to show why he is one of the most prolific quarterbacks in college football as he ended with 554 passing yards, 2 TDs and unfortunately, 2 interceptions. In all, WSU put up 706 yards of total offense. When the Cougars have things running on all cylinders, they are really good, they now have to continue to improve the defense as Pac-12 play starts.

    SOUTH DIVISION

    1. Arizona State (3-0, 1-0)

    W 38-24, at Colorado

Here is a tale of the good and the bad. Good: Arizona State is 3-0 to start the season and looking very good on offense. Bad: Quarterback Taylor Kelly went down with an apparent foot injury. After putting the Sun Devils out of reach for the victory, Kelly had retreated to the locker rooms at the end of the 3rd, only to return to the field in crutches and in a walking boot. Fortunately, the damage had already been done, especially by RB D.J. Foster who had 147 rushing yards as well as 1 rushing TD and 1 receiving TD.

    2. UCLA (3-0)

    W 20-17, vs Texas at AT&T Stadium

Just like ASU, a similar thing happened to the Bruins as QB Brett Hundley went down with an elbow injury in the first quarter. The offense struggled in the first half behind Jerry Neuheisel, but in the second, mixed up the play calling and established a running game, something UCLA had not ben able to do in the first two games. Neuheisel finished with 178 passing yards and completed his first two passing TDs of his career, none more important than a 33-yard TD pass to Jordan Payton that sealed the win. This is not the way that UCLA wanted to get a satisfying win, but that is how it ended.

    3. Arizona (3-0)

    W 35-28, vs Nevada

This was definitely one of the more exciting games in the Pac-12 as the Wildcats and the Wolfpack battled back a forth in what was a total offensive game. Together, both teams totaled 936 yards. Arizona had more on the ground than Nevada, but the Wolfpack ruled the air. In the end, it was all about who could stop the other on defense. The Wildcats prevailed, but just barely. Despite playing a good team, Arizona needs to get a bit more serious as Pac-12 play starts next week against surprising Cal.

    4. Utah (2-0)

    More from Pac-12

    5. USC (2-1, 1-0)

    L 31-37, at Boston College

So this happened. The vaunted USC defense gave up 506 yards (452 on the ground) as the Eagles shocked the men of Troy. The only thing USC was able to do was put the ball through the air as they could only manage 20 total rushing yards. Maybe the Trojans were hungover from their “epic” win over Stanford last week, but this has done some damage to their credibility. I mean, who loses to Boston College?

    6. Colorado (1-2, 0-1)

    L 24-38, vs Arizona State

Colorado looked better in their Pac-12 opener than they did over their last two games. QB Sefo Liufau looked really good behind center and put up 278 passing yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Despite the loss, Colorado put up 119 more yards than the high-powered Sun Devils. If anything, this is a moral victory for the Buffaloes. Too bad it still counts as an “L” in the standings.
