Both the AP and Coaches Poll are headlined by Florida State, Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, and Oklahoma — yet their orders differ. The week 3 AP Poll ranks the top five teams in the nation as Florida State, Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, whereas the national Coaches Poll has them listed as Florida State, Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Auburn. Both polls follow their top five with Texas A&M, Baylor, LSU, and Notre Dame. Moving up to tenth in the Coaches Poll is UCLA, but the Bruins remained at 12th in the AP Poll after a Hollywood win over Texas.
Georgia and USC, both of whom entered the week as top 10 teams, suffered disappointing losses to South Carolina and Boston College, respectively. Georgia fell to 13th in the AP and 14th in the Coaches Poll, as they only lost by three to a talented Gamecock squad lead by head coach Steve Spurrier. USC, on the other hand, after giving up 452 yards rushing, fell all the way to 17th in the AP and 21st in the Coaches Poll.

The college football playoff poll, like the BCS Poll of the past, wont be released until later in the season. That poll, which will be determined by the same committee that puts four teams in the new college football playoffs, is more relevant to teams themselves, as it may determine their postseason. We’ll be sure to update you when it comes out, but until then, keep checking back for the weekly AP and Coaches Polls.
