A good week in UCLA football recruiting has become a great week, as elite offensive tackle Andre James (Herriman, UT/Herriman) has committed to the Bruins tonight on ESPNU’s broadcast from Nike’s The Opening camp. James, who is rated by the 24/7 Composite Index as a 4-star recruit, chose UCLA over Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, and USC.

On the heels of Stephen Johnson III’s pledge to UCLA two days ago at the same event, James’s commitment to the Bruins continues UCLA’s momentum on the recruiting trail and provides Adrian Klemm with a potential anchor for his offensive line in the coming years.

And Klemm might not be done adding blue-chip offensive line prospects to this recruiting class, as UCLA is rumored to be the favorite to land 4-star guard Josh Wariboko (Oklahoma City, OK/Casady), 4-star center Fred Ulu-Perry (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis), and 3-star tackle Dru Samia (Danville, CA/San Ramon Valley) in addition to the already committed James and 4-star guard Tevita Halalilo.

As for James himself, he is a 6’5”, 272-lb recruit who profiles as a prototypical right tackle, although according to Scout’s West Coast recruiting maven Greg Biggins, James has the versatility to play inside as a guard as well. Per Biggins’s profile of James on Scout.com, “James plays with great pad level and can get surprisingly low for a 6-5 lineman. He already has very good technique, is strong at the point of attack and is a very good run blocker.” Biggins also lists James’s assets as his power, strength, nasty streak, and drive blocking skills.

We can’t wait to see Klemm mold James into an all-conference right tackle, and James clearly has the potential to reach that level. Welcome to Westwood, Andre!
