Tuiasosopo takes over the spot that recently promoted Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich had occupied last season. Ulbrich himself is also filling a vacant position that was previously held by Lou Spanos after he left the Bruins to take over as linebacker coach for the Tennessee Titans.
The newest member to the UCLA Football staff had lasted coached in 2012 at Colorado, with previous stops at Utah, Nevada and Utah State. UCLA head coach Jim Mora had hired Tuiasosopo for his expertise coaching pass rushers.
This hire also answers the question of who will take over coaching Special Teams as Tuiasosopo will be leading that position group. Ulbrich, who had both linebacker and special teams coaching titles last season, will hand over the reins for both spots, but should still have a hand in it, while Tuiasosopo gets acclimated to the UCLA defense.
Under Ulbrich, UCLA has had one of the best and most potent special teams, not only in the Pac-12, but the entire nation.
