UCLA Sports: Men’s Tennis, Women’s Gymnastics are totally amazing

facebooktwitterreddit

UCLA Football’s spring practice is just a few days away, which should be totally exciting, mainly because it’ll be my first spring practice. I’m giddy like a teenage girl, guys.

Anyway, there’s more to UCLA Athletics than football and basketball. Let’s go over what’s happened in the world of UCLA sports:

Men’s Tennis, ranked No. 5, shuts out Loyola Marymount 7-0

So UCLA Men’s Tennis is already the fifth-best Tennis squad in the nation, and a win over the 7-8 Loyola Marymount squad won’t do much to bolster that ranking. UCLA is set to start in-conference play against Oregon this weekend with a record of 14-2.

On an unrelated note, I tried playing tennis once with a friend and got hit square in the crotch. Brave souls, these male tennis players.

Women’s Gymnastics: Seven Bruins are members of the 2012 All-Pac-12 squad, Coach Field is Pac-12 Coach of the Year, as UCLA Gymnastics wins Pac-12 conference championship.

Seven Bruins made the All-Pac-12 team this year, the most of any other Pac-12 school, finishing ahead of both Utah and Oregon State, both of which had put up six All-Pac-12 members. In addition, Coach Valorie Kondos Field won Pac-12 Coach of the Year, her fourth of her career.

It should be noted that these Coach of the Year awards always tick me off: They’re normally based off of arbitrary guidelines, much like they are in baseball, basketball and football. It’s likely that Coach Field would have won more C.O.Y. awards if these awards were given objectively.

It is what it is, though.

Men’s Track and Field beats No. 7 Texas

UCLA Men’s Track and Field rallied to beat 7th-ranked Texas. I’m not going to lie: All of what’s on the press release is French to me, and I have no idea what the numbers mean. That’s because I’m an ignorant, disgusting sports fan, and I know this from the bottom of my heart. *cries*

Either way, we beat a top-10 team in Track and Field, and that’s a pretty damn nice accomplishment.

That’s it for this week; we’ll keep you updated on what we can whenever we can.

GO BRUINS!!!
