UCLA is definitely a team that plays to the level of the other team. The first half was a joke, talk about horrible shooting.
But this is just SAD- I’ve never thought I’d see Lazeric Jones shoot an AIRBALL FREE THROW. Then AIRBALL on a layup. I just can’t really blame Howland for that at all. Plus we were shooting sub 30% field goals, which just isn’t going to get it done against a real team.
That said, we somehow still beat sc, mostly because we had a relatively normal second half (that still sucked). As UCLA won, I guess I won’t be forced to call for Howland’s resignation, and will look forward to the next game against Arizona. Since Josh Smith didn’t play 1st half, this means he will be relatively rested. Today was essentially our “warm up” bye game, mostly because usc forgot to put together a basketball team this season (or a decent D2 basketball team, however you want to look at it).
Nothing new can really be gained from this game, except for the fact that sc sucks at basketball, and that strategically UCLA was doing fine (outshooting sc 69 to 55) but really just can’t execute (shooting 27.5%). That’s on the players, not Howland.
